Meet Angela Gallo, LICSW

Art Talk

Angela’s journey has always been rooted in art, and using art as a tool to help people has always been her passion. Practicing as a licensed therapist with a Bachelor’s degree in Art Therapy, a background in trauma-focused work, and training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) allows Angela to work with people in a comprehensive and unique way. Art Talk provides the ability to create a practice in which the integration of the body and mind is rooted in art and the evidenced-based practices of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Art + Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Whether in person, in one of our groups, or virtually, Art Talk will provide the space you need to help you become yourself. You will use art and cognitive restructuring to expose and undo unhealthy, maladaptive beliefs and thinking patterns that trap you in a life that isn’t authentically yours. In each session, you will be provided a specific directive for the art-making process. Each directive will help you connect to your core beliefs – typically using paint or oil pastels to encourage fluidity. To help you translate the insights you get in session into your everyday life, you’ll get “homework” or journaling between sessions. A big part of your journaling will be logging unhelpful thoughts and then physically writing out ways to challenge them. This is to help rewire your brain to begin automatically arriving at more balanced and helpful thoughts.

You don’t need to have any art experience! It’s more about the connection the art provides rather than the art itself. Art is used to help us expose our faulty thinking patterns and beliefs that cause us so much distress.

Perfectly said by a client:

“I really didn’t know how deep I was going to until the art took me there.”
